Here is a recent compile that came up in Microsoft regarding housing loans. As usual, due diligence on your part is strongly advised.

Here is the compile from all the replies I got and it seems LICHFC is good.
=========
ING Vishya is one of the best bank for housing loan.
=========
My experience with LICHFC was good. Compare for interest rate and also option for pre-payment
========
SBI is always best it saves money when compared with other private banks (Formulas are different)
==========
Best way is to go for LIC
They are giving good offering and interest is very less compare to these banks
=========
I tried Indian bank, and fortunately for me they have not hiked up their interest rates much, and still the least charging banks around (9.5%). I have heard that Canara bank also offers similar rates. Beware of the documentation and procedures you have to go with them. But, interestingly Indian bank does not charge you any pre-closure penalties or late payment charges, whereas these figures are 4% and 36% respectively, in the case of a Private bank.
========
I will not recommend ICICI at all…….
========
I took a loan last year from ICICI. The initial process was super smooth, but after the loan got sanctioned and I came to Redmond, I was put through an unbelievable amount of hassles. The general wisdom is that banks like ICICI and HDFC are very good to get the loan sanctioned, but your troubles start after the loan is approved. And with banks like SBI, there is a lot of initial hassle to get the loan approved, but after that, things are a breeze. So if your friend is willing to put up with some initial hassle, SBI is definitely the way to go. I think they also have lower interest rates.
=======
ICICI is ridiculous ask him to go for LIC or SBI ,though the process takes time the fruits of it are much sweeter later.ICICI charges exorbitant rates 1nce the deal is done……
